The name originally belonged to a castle built on a steep rock above the right bank of the Jizera River around 1425. At the beginning of the 16th century, the castle was abandoned and the then owners, the Wartenbergs, moved to the sub-castle, where they owned a comfortable Renaissance-style fortress on the banks of the Jizera River. Around 1700 it was rebuilt into a Baroque chateau. In 1810, under the administration of Baron František Zachariáš Römisch, the chateau was rebuilt in the Classicist style, enriched with Art Nouveau elements at the beginning of the 20th century, and today it is used for a purpose.
The guard castle Vranov, situated on a narrow and steep sandstone cliff above the right bank of the Jizera River, was founded by Heník of Wallenstein around 1425, but it was already mentioned as deserted at the beginning of the 16th century. Including the forecourt, it is almost 400 m long and is currently considered the longest and most complicated rock castle in the Czech Republic. It underwent the greatest changes in the first half of the 19th century, when the estate was bought by the textile entrepreneur František Zachariáš Römisch. He had romantic monuments and cairns celebrating prominent writers and poets, legendary heroes, Czech rulers and warlords placed in the ruins and the surrounding area. He called the entire former fortress Pantheon. The Hall of the Three Emperors, commemorating the victory of the Allied armies over Napoleon in the Battle of the Nations at Leipzig in 1813, and many intricate paths, caves and memorial plaques are still preserved on the site. The Pantheon is dominated by a neo-Gothic summer palace with a slate tower dating from 1826. Under the rock wall is a carved castle well, from where a path leads to the Garden Viewpoint, rising 60 m above the river.
